WHO WE ARE

People are drawn here for a variety of reasons. Whether you seek a
worship home or a community that shares your values,  are hungry to
deepen your faith through study or looking for ways to put your faith
into action in the world, we invite you to get to know our parish better
and experience what Nativity could be for you. Whatever brings you,
we pray that you will find here a community of hope.
HISTORY

Originally called Evergreen Mission, we held services at Beverly
School until September 1957, when we moved to a converted house
at our present 5-acre site.  Christmas Eve 1964 saw the opening of a
new, contemporary church building connected with the former house,
adding classrooms, office space, an enlarged social area, and ample
parking.

During the late 1960’s, Nativity invested seed money in an inner city
Detroit housing project.  This was the beginning of Nativity’s
historical commitment to outreach and activism.  Nativity members
were known to organize pickets for social justice and take on projects
like calling area voters to support measures designed to support low-
income housing.  We invited Caesar Chavez to come and speak
about the famous Grape Boycott.  Our community created a goal to
work toward dedicating 50% of our budget to Outreach.  Today, we
are still working toward that goal, but we are proud that Outreach is
by far our best funded committee.

During late 1980’s, we began making plans and raising funds to
make further additions to the church.  By December 1991, a new
parish hall and kitchen were completed.

2003 saw the beginning of another capital campaign.  We added a
labyrinth to the front of our property, providing a meditative space
that is open for all who seek it out.  We completed the capital
campaign with improvements to our building: installing beautiful new
handicapped accessible doors, painting the walls, redoing the floors,
and refinishing the beautiful vaulted wood ceiling in our sanctuary.
