MEET OUR VICAR
A former teacher, Diane Morgan, came to us in December 2008 as
supply clergy before becoming our vicar. Since her ordination in
1991, she has served Detroit area parishes in rector and long term
supply capacities. Additionally, she worked for 15 years as a
chaplain at Beaumont Hospital - 9 of those years spent as
department head.
Diane graduated from Bexley Hall Seminary in Rochester, New York.
She has training as a Bereavement Support Specialist, Thanatologist,
and Spiritual Director. In the past, she has served the Diocese as a
member of the Ecclesiastical Court, Sexual-Ethics Task Force, Bishop’
s Transition Team, and Commission on Ministry. She is currently a
member of the Standing Committee and Bishop’s Advisory Committee
on Diaconate.
Diane has three children and five grandchildren, ages 18-23. She is
an avid reader, gardener, and traveler.

ROLE OF THE VICAR
Because Nativity is a mission, our Rector is the Bishop of the Diocese
of Michigan. Diane, who is responsible for the day to day functions of
Nativity, is a Vicar. Functionally, the role of a Vicar at a mission is the
same as the role of a Rector at a parish. She is our ecclesiastical
authority and is responsible for the worship and spiritual health of our
community.

LAY LEADERSHIP
The Bishop’s Committee is the legal representative of the parish and
is responsible for the financial health and physical property of
Nativity. The Committee works with Vicar to tend to Nativity’s needs.
The members of the Committee are voted on by the community, and
terms rotate so that each year sees new members and returning
members serving together. The Bishop’s Committee’s Senior Warden
works closely with the Vicar and leads the Committee. The Junior
Warden oversees the church property and buildings. We also have a
Treasurer who is elected annually separately from the Committee. We
meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month @ 6:30 p.m.
