OUR LABYRINTH
A labyrinth is not a maze. A maze is a puzzle with dead ends and
tricks. A labyrinth has only one path leading to the center and back
out again.
A labyrinth is an ancient meditation tool; it is a geometric shape that
defines a sacred space. It has been an integral part of many
cultures. The symbol has appeared in various forms throughout most
of the world, including Native North and South America, Australia,
Java, India, and Nepal. In Europe, labyrinths flourished in cathedrals
in the medieval era.
A Labyrinth walk can be used to achieve a contemplative state.
When you walk a labyrinth, you meander back and forth, turning 180
degrees each time you enter a new circuit. You lose track of direction
and the outside world, which quiets the mind.
Each person’s walk is a personal experience. You might use the
labyrinth to clear and center your mind. You might enter with a
question or concern. The time in the center can be used for
reflecting, meditating, or praying, as well as discovering your own
sacred inner space. Some walks are healing or enlightening, others
just a pleasant walk. Each walk is a new experience.
A labyrinth is a tool for people of all beliefs to come together for a
common spiritual experience. You are welcome to visit our labyrinth
at any time.
